The slide projector once popular in the home for showing holiday slides is now more often found utilised for business presentation purposes. To produce slides a standard camera is used with a special film, when this is processed slides are returned as opposed to the more popular photographic prints.
The slide projector utilises a light shone through the coloured slide, this is then amplified by a lens and projected onto a screen of white material. The lens incorporates a simple focusing mechanism so that the projector may be placed at varying distances from the screen. Slides are loaded into a carousel or rack which is placed in the projector. A hand held push button is used to activate a motor which selects the next or previous slide in the rack or carousel.
In recent years a new type of slide system has become available. Instead of utilising a lens to `project' the image onto a white screen the image is picked up by a CCD (charge coupled device) within the unit. This is identical to that found in a camcorder, it converts the slide image into a TV picture which can then be displayed on a monitor or television set, making the system more convenient.
